I
know and work with both of Salem’s candidates for Mayor. I am
pleased with the cordial campaign conducted by both Anna Peterson and
Chuck Bennett, and urge them to continue this tone through the final
days of the campaign.
In
my opinion, Anna Peterson is the most qualified to take on the
challenges as mayor and she has earned my endorsement. Her
commitment to creating job opportunities, giving priority to public
safety, and to finding solutions to providing services without a tax
increase, will serve Salem well.
A
mayor is a volunteer, but our growing city requires that person to
fill many roles, often with very little notice. Former Mayor Tom
Nielsen worked an average of 43 hours a week to fulfill his duties,
and I have easily dedicated 50 hours a week over the nearly eight
years serving as mayor. Salem deserves that kind of attention.
Anna
will be a full time mayor with none of the conflict of interest
issues Chuck will face between his state government lobbying job and
city business. Nearly all of his work experience is in government
related fields, and frankly, I think we need more of a
“by-the-people” approach at the local level.
I
am continually impressed with all that Anna Peterson has done for
this community. She has been a leader of many diverse non-profits,
owned and managed businesses, and served on government Boards and
Committees at the local and state levels. She knows what it takes to
bring jobs into our area through her service on the board of a local
bank, and as the chairman of our regional economic development
organization. I trust her to make the right decisions.
Anna
has an open and friendly approach to people, and is known for
bringing cross sections of our residents together to find solutions
to improve our city.
I
am proud to endorse Anna Peterson for Mayor of Salem.

Anna deserves my vote because she has done so much for our community, worked hard on no meth, worked hard for a good economy, and cares so dearly for Salem.
